Global report on neglected tropical diseases 2026: mid-term evaluation of the road map implementation. Executive summary
Overview
This summary presents the key findings of the mid-term evaluation of the road map for neglected tropical diseases 2021–2030. Five years into the road map, gains have been real but uneven. The number of people requiring interventions against neglected tropical diseases fell to 1.41 billion in 2024, 36% fewer than in 2010, and by June 2026, 63 countries had eliminated at least one disease. Forty-three countries have adopted integrated strategies for skin-related neglected tropical diseases, already exceeding the 2030 target.
However, most indicators remain below the 2030 targets, neither eradication programme is on track, and external financing has contracted sharply. The summary outlines the main risks to reaching the 2030 targets and the priorities for 2026–2030, including increasing domestic financing, making integration the default delivery model and treating equity as a design requirement.
