The Health Information and Digital Health (HID) unit supports Member States in the Western Pacific Region to strengthen integrated health information systems and leverage effective, ethical, and safe digital health applications to advance equitable health outcomes and improve data quality, enabling strengthened monitoring and evidence-based decision-making, in line with national, regional, and global health priorities.
HID strengthens the foundations of health information systems across the Region by supporting comprehensive assessments to identify capacity gaps and priority actions. The unit supports improvements in data availability, quality, interoperability, and use through: strengthening civil registration and vital statistics systems —with a focus on mortality and cause-of-death data — enhancing health information system performance; advancing data standards and classifications, including ICD-11; and expanding the use of analytics and geographic information systems (GIS) to monitor health trends, system performance, and inequities.
On digital health transformation, HID supports Member States to develop, cost, and implement national digital health strategies and enterprise architectures, and provides normative guidance and technical assistance to promote secure, interoperable, and people-centered digital health systems. HID also supports the responsible and ethical use of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence.
HID also monitors and analyses health trends, maintains regional health data platforms and dashboards, and performs targeted research and analyses to generate and disseminate insights, improving the accessibility and usability of regional health data.
Across all areas, HID works in close collaboration with WHO Country Offices, Headquarters, and a range of partners to deliver tailored country support for data-driven and digitally-enabled health systems.
